Rimmugýgur Viking Club

EventsFestivalsMusicVikings

Rimmugýgur is a club for people who are interested in the culture and battle skills of the Vikings. Is is the biggest Viking club in Iceland, established in the year 1997. They practice and prepare during the winter and tour festivals in Iceland and abroad during the summer. The club’s own festival in Hafnarfjörður is usually held in mid-June. In addition to battle shows, there will be a medieval marketplace with homemade crafts, food and drink and a Viking school for kids.

Feel the shiver run down your spine when you hear the screams from the battlefield. War-crazed Vikings swing swords, throw spears and take cover behind their shields at the annual Rimmugýgur Viking Festival in Hafnarfjörður . But although the battle looks authentic, it’s just for fun and all the “Vikings” will survive. They might even teach you how to fight, Viking-style!

Ten ideas for recreation in and around Hafnarfjörður:

  2. Go back to the Viking era and have an old-fashioned Icelandic feast at the Viking Village.
  3. Check out the town’s popular cafés, bakeries and restaurants, such as Pallett, Brikk and Von Mathús.
  4. On your stroll around the charming town, check out the design and specialty shops, including Sign Jewelry at the beautiful harbor.
  5. Visit Hafnarborg, The Hafnarfjördur Centre of Culture and Fine Art, for an inspiring exhibition or a captivating concert.
  6. Go riding with Íshestar (Ice-Horses) in the outskirts of Hafnarfjörður on a soft-gaited Icelandic horse in stunning nature.
  7. Go on an excursion to the hot spring area Seltún in Krýsuvík, walk along the beach of lake Kleifarvatn, marvel at the green Grænavatn lake and climb Keilir if you’re up for it!
  8. Book a boat tour from Reykjavík marina to watch the whales, puffins or northern lights, go sea angling or on a trip to Viðey island.
  9. Cycle along the seaside of the capital region, all the way from Hafnarfjörður to the lighthouse Grótta on Seltjarnarnes.
  10. Jump on a public bus to discover more of the capital region, including design in Garðabær, art in Kópavogur, restaurants in Reykjavík and wool in Mosfellsbær.
