Kaupvangur, the Oldest House in Town
Múlastofa in Vopnafjörður is located in the town’s oldest building, Kaupvangur (built in 1884), which also serves as the local cultural centre. Here, visitors can learn about the well‑known brothers Jón Múli and Jónas Árnason, who were born at Kirkjuból in Vopnafjörður.
The Brothers Jón Múli and Jónas Árnason
Jón Múli (1921–2002) was known for his work as a broadcaster, jazz musician and songwriter. Jónas (1923–1998) was a journalist, poet and member of parliament. Together, the brothers wrote many popular musicals and revues, including Deleríum Búbónis and Þið munið hann Jörund. Several of their songs later became well‑loved Icelandic classics.

At Múlastofa, visitors can listen to the brothers’ voices, both spoken and sung, and watch archive footage from Icelandic National Television that sheds light on their lives and work.
Café in Kaupvangur
Guests are welcome to visit the Kaupvangur café, which offers freshly brewed coffee and light refreshments. The café is open during the exhibition’s operating season.
